COMPASSION

This sonic essence is a setting of the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum, which Tibetan Buddhist monks and others around the world chant for the benefit of all humanity.

About the mantra in this track

Om Mani Padme Hum
Pronunciation: OM MAH-NEE PAHD-MEY HOOM
Translation: “The jewel of consciousness is in the lotus of the heart.”

In The Mantram Handbook, meditation teacher Eknath Easwaran writes: “This jewel is the permanent treasure of joy and security hidden deep within us, waiting to be discovered.” Easwaran notes that lotuses grow from the bottom of muddy ponds, but when they bloom, their bright blossoms are unstained by the mud. “For this reason,” he says, “the lotus is a perfect symbol of purity, reminding us that whatever mistakes we may have committed in the past, we can all purify our consciousness. . . . Our hearts can open with love and compassion for all.”

When to play this sonic essence

“All of us are aware that the world has problems,” writes Thomas Ashley-Farrand in Healing Mantras. “Most of us have thought, ‘I wish I could do something to help humanity come to its senses.’ Many of us pray daily, and that has helped us all, I am sure. Even so, more can always be done. . . . [Using] the great Mani mantra is done to promote the idea of spiritual advancement combined with service to all sentient life. . . . Chant it knowing that you are putting your metaphysical shoulder to the same wheel the masters and Great Ones are constantly pushing—the wheel of humanity’s spiritual advancement.”
